3D AIR iPhone SMART

SOLO 3D FILMING SYSTEM

The 3D AIR iPhone SMART is a specialized solution that streamlines the process of capturing high-quality spatial/3D videos to its absolute essence. With the lightweight and intelligent automation of the 3D AIR SMART MINI, combined with the iPhoneโ€™s nimble, compact, and efficient performance, and the professional power of the Blackmagic Camera App, shooting high-quality spatial/3D videos becomes effortless and straightforward.

Among the popular methods of stereoscopic video capture today, while smartphones and integrated gimbal technologies can shoot 3D or spatial videos, the fixed and non-adjustable interaxial distance, along with limitations in resolution, frame rate, and other parameters, often result in suboptimal stereoscopic effects. The 3D effect is particularly lacking when the subject is too far or too close, making it difficult to achieve good 3D results in close-up or detailed shots.

The 3D AIR iPhone SMART features a vertically oriented stereoscopic structure, allowing for adjustable interaxial distance. Paired with dual iPhones (models 15 and above), it meets the demands of high resolution, high frame rate, and other essential parameters, enabling flawless compatibility for spatial/3D video creation across distant, medium, close-up, and macro shots.

Lightweight Shooting

The 3D AIR SMART MINI has a net weight of 1159g, and when paired with two iPhone 16 devices, the total weight is 1746g.

Highly Compatible

Unlike the 3D AIR Professional Edition PD-3DA-SPM and PD-3DA-SM, which require two identical camera models and lenses, the 3D AIR iPhone Edition is compatible with all iPhone models from the iPhone 15 onwards. It saves on equipment costs and streamlines the installation and setup process, making everything just right. Even casual enthusiasts can easily take control of the shooting process.

In the making of the Avatar series, James Cameron (a visionary with outstanding contributions to 3D filmmaking and viewing) used a balanced stereoscopic rig for panoramic shots, paired with a vertical stereoscopic rig to capture close-ups. This approach validated the necessity of using both types of equipment in synergy. The vertical stereoscopic rig, with its arrangement close to the human eyeโ€™s interocular distance, significantly reduces stereoscopic distortion, resulting in a more natural 3D depth in the visuals.

Apple Immersive Video Production Standards

Through technical discussions with relevant departments at Apple and Meta, we have concluded that the optimal filming workflow is as follows: first, use an ultra-high-resolution binocular camera system (parallel stereo setup) for panoramic 180ยฐ capture to obtain large-scene spatial depth images and data. Then, use a vertical stereo setup for close-range or partial subject shots to capture more detailed spatial depth information. Finally, digitally merge the wide and close-range footage in post-production to achieve the highest standard for 8K 3D 180ยฐ immersive videos. Some segments of Appleโ€™s immersive films were produced using a similar approach.

Multidimensional Interaction, Expanding Horizons

The 3D AIR iPhone SMART outputs stereoscopic signals that can be viewed in real-time through commonly available AR glasses or MR headsets (such as Vision Pro or Quest 3). To view the real-time effect, users should have a basic understanding of NDI technology and experience with OBS streaming.

Professional and Reliable Photography App

With the professional and reliable photography app โ€œBlackmagic Cameraโ€ from Blackmagic Design, the iPhone functions just like a professional camera, allowing users to adjust all parameters, including project resolution, frame rate, shutter speed, ISO, and more. The app also supports the synchronization of settings between two iPhones, enabling seamless parameter control.

The app also supports the synchronization of settings between two iPhones, enabling seamless parameter control.

The most important feature is its ability to disable in-camera stabilization. Whether it's vertical stereoscopic shooting or balanced stereoscopic shooting, if the stabilization is not turned off, the footage from two moving shots will be affected by the in-camera stabilization, causing significant issues in post-production.

*Blackmagic Camera is our highly recommended app for use with the 3D AIR iPhone Edition, but it is not the only option. If you prefer using another photography app, just make sure that it allows you to disable stabilization (in-body stabilization).

The Blackmagic Camera ProDock transforms your iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max into a professional production camera, providing all the necessary ports for building a custom setup. It also supports the iPhone version of the Blackmagic Camera App! You'll gain HDMI monitoring, microphone, headphone, timecode sync, and USB ports for connecting external storage and power. If you're looking to take your production to a more professional level, you may consider purchasing this device as an additional option.

iPhone + Blackmagic Camera + 3D AIR โ€“ Create Hollywood-Quality Films

In the past, the cost of high-quality stereoscopic filmmaking equipment for Hollywood-level productions alone could exceed hundreds of thousands of dollars, not to mention the expenses for cameras and lensesโ€”making it affordable only for large teams or professional productions. However, with the perfect combination of iPhone + Blackmagic Camera + 3D AIR, you can replicate the full Hollywood stereoscopic filmmaking process at a fraction of the cost. Achieve Hollywood-level, high-quality 3D footage in a fraction of the time, and easily create your own cinematic masterpieces.

If you choose to use two iPhone 17 Pro Max devices for stereoscopic shooting, you'll be able to record videos in up to 4K at 120FPS per lens and output spatial/3D videos at up to 8K 120FPS. Additionally, the iPhone 17 Pro Max supports ProRes RAW recording, which means you'll capture a wider dynamic range, more image detail, and greater flexibility in post-production, allowing you to achieve a more Hollywood-level cinematic look.

Quick Lens Switching

In traditional professional stereoscopic filming, switching and calibrating lenses is often a time-consuming and tedious process. Despite optimized stereoscopic equipment, considerable time is still required to manage these tasks. One of the greatest advantages of using an iPhone for professional stereoscopic shooting is the ability to switch lenses with a simple tap of your finger, effortlessly transitioning between wide shots, mid-shots, close-ups, and macros. The iPhone 17 Pro and newer models support seamless switching between seven lenses: 13mm, 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 48mm, 100mm, and 200mm. Additionally, 3D AIR supports lenses with an equivalent focal length of 28mm or greater, making your shooting experience more flexible and convenient.

Innovative Design

The 3D AIR integrates built-in LiDAR distance measurement autofocus module, signal module, 3D stereoscopic image processing module, electronic control module, and power supply module. With different locking mechanisms, it allows for easy mounting of two sets of lenses and cameras or two iPhones onto the lens hood, eliminating the need for complex and cumbersome installation and setup steps.

Nanogrinding Lens Technology

Typically, DSLR lenses begin to show a rapid decline in image clarity beyond the 70mm focal length, and lenses above 120mm are virtually unusable. Although the lens appears smooth, it still exhibits roughness and unevenness under a nanoscopic view. To address this, the 3D AIR DSLR lenses are specially crafted using nanogrinding technology, ensuring that images captured at focal lengths above 200mm remain sharp and clear.

Aerospace-Grade Lightweight Material

The 3D AIR casing is made from a combination of magnesium-aluminum alloy and carbon fiber panels, materials known for their lightweight, high-strength, and excellent corrosion resistance. These materials are commonly used in industries such as aerospace and automotive, where energy efficiency and weight reduction are crucial. To make it more user-friendly for individual use, the 3D AIR is carefully designed with weight control in mind, minimizing the burden on the user as much as possible.

3D Image Synthesis and Processing System
Real-time Stereoscopic Effect Monitoring

The 3D AIR can capture the image signals from two iPhones, process them to synthesize and output a real-time stereoscopic effect monitoring video signal. It supports output in various HD formats, including 4K stereoscopic video signals. Whether using a standard monitor, a 3D monitor, or AR glasses, you can monitor the 3D effects in real-time.

Image Mirror Adjustment

Even if the photography app lacks built-in horizontal or vertical mirroring functions, you can independently apply vertical/horizontal mirroring to your left (L) or right (R) camera through the 3D Image Synthesis and Processing System. This ensures you can properly monitor both regular and stereoscopic footage.

Vertical and Rotational Alignment

By rotating the up/down holes on the 3D AIR, you can adjust the vertical alignment of the left (L) and right (R) camera images. Loosening the screws on the iPhone locking mechanism allows you to adjust the rotational alignment of the L and R images. Performing physical calibration before shooting helps ensure correct stereoscopic signals for direct output or for easier post-production adjustments.

Manual Stereoscopic Depth Adjustment

For photographers with extensive experience in stereoscopic filming who wish to have full control over the stereoscopic depth, the 3D AIR allows manual adjustment of the optical axis distance using a small wheel controller, with an adjustable range of 0 to 46mm.

Automatic Stereoscopic Depth Adjustment

The 3D AIR can input two sets of image data via HDMI. The built-in intelligent AI algorithm in the 3D Image Synthesis System calculates the optimal stereoscopic effect for the current shot and automatically adjusts the stereoscopic depth (optical axis distance). Even beginners without professional stereoscopic filming experience can easily capture high-quality, visually stunning 3D/space videos with excellent stereoscopic effects.

AI Human-eye Simulation Technology

The 3D AIR features AI human-eye simulation technology, offering three preset stereoscopic effect levels: Strong, Medium, and Comfortable. The intelligent AI algorithm calculates the corresponding stereoscopic data for each preset, allowing the depth adjustment to adapt to various shooting scenarios.
