SMART FUSION is an integration system that enables communication between the LIVE AIR 4 SMART LiDAR motor and Sony cameras. It is designed to allow Sony camera focusing functions to be used with all native E-mount manual focus lenses, or with PL cinema lenses mounted via an E-to-PL adapter.

The original design of SMART FUSION had already achieved an industry-leading level of compactness and lightweight performance, representing a unique breakthrough in miniaturization. But we did not stop there.

To further reduce the burden on the setup and improve the user experience, we overcame multiple challenges in structural and electronic design. As a result, SMART FUSION has been further optimized into an even thinner and lighter form than a coin, with its weight dramatically reduced compared with the first generation, achieving an almost hundredfold level of weight reduction.

This allows more users to experience this camera integration system at a lower cost.

Powerful Performance in a Slim Body

SMART FUSION weighs only 1.2g and measures just DIA 46.7mm × THK 0.6mm. Inside its slim and compact body, it integrates a chip, Bluetooth module, antenna, and multiple electronic components.

Wireless Transmission

SMART FUSION first establishes communication with the camera, then wirelessly connects to the LiDAR motor through its antenna and Bluetooth modules. This allows focus commands sent from the camera to drive the motor.

Twist, Press, and You’re Ready

Simply place SMART FUSION inside the Sony E-mount to complete the installation. It is powered directly by the camera body, with no additional battery required. Once the camera is turned on, SMART FUSION starts automatically, providing stable communication support between the LIVE AIR 4 SMART LiDAR motor and Sony cameras.

Native-Like Focus Control

Any focus control mode supported by Sony cameras, such as Wide AF, Spot Focus, Zone Focus, Focus Lock, and Tracking, can be used just like with a native autofocus lens. You can control focus by tapping the screen or half-pressing the camera shutter button.

Currently, SMART FUSION only supports Sony FX-series and Alpha-series cameras. It allows the LIVE AIR 4 SMART LiDAR motor to control native E-mount manual focus lenses, or PL cinema lenses mounted via an E-to-PL adapter. More camera brands and models may be supported in the future.

More updates will be coming soon!

SMART FUSION Officially Begins

May 19, 2026 · PDTeam

After the 2026 NAB SHOW, we immediately held several internal meetings to thoroughly review and reassess the original SMART FUSION concept.

Based on customer feedback from the show, real-world usage scenarios, and the future direction of the product, we ultimately decided to fully optimize SMART FUSION and relaunch it in an entirely new form.

This is not just a simple adjustment, but a revolutionary upgrade in terms of structure, installation, and user experience. We look forward to introducing SMART FUSION as a lighter, more convenient, and safer solution for our users.

SMART FUSION Debuts at the 2026 NAB Show 2026

Apr 27, 2026 · PDTeam

SMART FUSION made its first appearance at the 2026 NAB Show 2026!

We showcased the first-generation SMART FUSION prototype together with the complete installation setup for LIVE AIR 4 SMART, while also introducing its current features and sharing our vision for the product’s future capabilities.

It was a highly productive event, and we received a great deal of recognition and valuable feedback from customers.
We will compile the feedback and suggestions we received and discuss them internally to further improve SMART FUSION.

1. What is the difference between the previously released SMART FUSION and the current version?

The previously released SMART FUSION was more like a lens adapter, but it required users to modify the original structure of the Sony camera body, which could potentially cause certain concerns or impact.

The new version, however, is simply a compact circuit board with integrated electronic components. It does not affect the camera body structure during use. In addition, it helps users save both cost and installation time.

After carefully considering all customer feedback and evaluating multiple factors, we ultimately decided to move forward with the new version of the SMART FUSION solution.

2. Does SMART FUSION have a battery? How is it powered?

SMART FUSION is powered directly by the Sony camera and does not contain a battery. We have implemented voltage and current protection to ensure that even during long-term operation, it consumes very little power from the camera.

3. Will SMART FUSION affect lens or adapter installation?

No. It will not affect the installation of lenses or adapters in any way.

4. How does SMART FUSION connect to the LiDAR motor? How does the camera control lens focus?

SMART FUSION connects wirelessly to the LiDAR motor via Bluetooth. We continue using the LIVE AIR 4 SMART lens database and utilize AI intelligent algorithms to simulate and generate real lens data. Once the camera is powered on, users only need to enable the autofocus function, and the motor can immediately perform autofocus operations. (The motor needs to learn the lens travel range once after powering on.)

5. Does SMART FUSION only support LIVE AIR 4 SMART motors? Are older motors supported?

Unfortunately, due to hardware limitations, SMART FUSION only supports the LiDAR motors used with LIVE AIR 4 SMART.
